The Kauai Plant Cluster Lisa L.A

Description The Kauai plant cluster includes 20 different plant species that are endangered. These plants grow in scattered areas throughout the island of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands. All but seven of the species are found only on the island of Kauai. The Kauai Plant cluster includes these plants: sinodendron lychnoides, Alsinidendron viscosum, Cyanea recta, Cyanea remyi, Cyrtandra cyaneoides, Delissea rivularis, Hibiscadeiphus woodii, Hibiscus waimeae hannerae, Kokia kauaiensis, Labordia tin~folia var. wahiawaensis, Myrsine linearfolia, Phyllostegia knudsenii, Myrsine linear~folia, Pritchardia napaliensis, Pritchardia viscosa, Schiedea helleri, Schiedea kauaiensis, Schiedea membranacea, Schiedea stellarioides, Viola kauaiensis or wahiawaensis.

The Different Habitats of the Kauai Plant Cluster The 20 plants included in the Kauai plant cluster grow mostly in the north and northwestern portions of Kauai. They grow in different types of areas: shrublands, lowlands to highlands, and in areas that change from dry to wet. One species, Pritchardia napaliensis, is found in low, dry areas. Why the Kauai Plant Cluster is Endangered These plants may become extinct because their habitats are continuously damaged or threatened by one or more of the following: not enough space to grow, not enough light, not enough water; predators such as blacktail deer, goats, pigs, rats and slugs; loss of habitat caused by bad weather, such as hurricanes; and humans. What we can do to save the Kauai Plant Cluster Well, we must protect the plants that are still in good condition. We can do this by fencing plants in an area that is off limits from actions that threaten them, like the predators and human threats. Other factors can be controlled in this environment, like water and light. An educational program is also needed to teach people about the disappearance of the Kauai plant cluster. In this program, people would learn about the habitats of the Kauai plant cluster and become aware of what is happening to its habitat. People can then decide to take action to protect the plants of the Kauai plant cluster. The Kauai Plant Cluster Recovery Plan 1. Protect and expand current populations by controlling threats and monitoring 2. Conduct research important to save the species 3. Develop and implement public education `
