Ascidia mentula O F Müller, 1776

Die Stumpen-Seescheide wächst, meist einzeln lebend, auf und unter Steinen oder an Felswänden. Tiere aus seichten Zonen sind weniger temperaturempfindlich.
Die Tiere, die aus tieferen Regionen und damit aus bis zu 200 Metern Tiefe stammen, sollten jedoch in kühleren Becken gehalten werden.

Über die Haltbarkeit in der Aquaristik liegen uns keine großen Erkentnisse vor.
In der Literaratur steht jedoch, dass sie gut zu halten sind.

Freßfeind ist die Flankenkiemerschnecke Pleurobranchus membranaceus.

Haben 8 schmale weiße Steifen am Rand des Siphons. Immer pink/rot.
Eine gleich aussehende Art in grün heißt Ascidia conchilega

Wir pflegen Ascidia mentula in größerer Stückzahl in unseren Mittelmeer-Becken, welche über Lebendgestein mitgebracht wurden. Sie sind nun seit einem Jahr in den Aquarien und scheinen sehr ausdauernd und gut haltbar zu sein. Wahrscheinlich kommt ihnen eine regelmäßige Planktonfütterung sehr zugute.
Eine dieser Seescheiden lebt sogar in einem unserer tropischen Becken, da sie als blinder Passagier an einem eingebrachten Stein saß. Die tropischen Temperaturen scheinen der Ascidia mentula nichts auszumachen. Unsere Seescheiden stammen aber auch aus maximal 5 Meter Wassertiefe und sind somit auch wärmere Temperaturen gewöhnt, als Tiere aus tieferen Wasserzonen.
