Red Stripe encourages responsible drinking

Published:Thursday | July 29, 2010 | 12:00 AM

As most of us head to Negril for a weekend of partying, Red Stripe is encouraging its consumers to adopt responsible drinking habits while enjoying themselves.

A part of its policy as an alcoholic-beverage company is not only to market its brands to adults but to also promote responsible use of its products.

Through DrinkiQ.com, Red Stripe and its parent company Diageo, has been educating its consumers about how the human body reacts to alcohol and encouraging responsible consumption of its alcoholic brands.

Consumers may visit DrinkiQ.com for more information on responsible drinking.'

Drinki-Q tips

1. Keep track of how much you drink: count and measure:

Be conscious of how much you are being served. Watch out for those generous pours!

Avoid top-ups, or refreshing the drink, so you can keep track of your alcohol intake.

2. A word to the wise:

If you accept a drink from someone you don't know, you'll know about as much about what's in that drink as you do about the person who gave it to you.

Pacing and Spacing:

When you drink, pace yourself. Sip slowly. Have no more than one alcoholic drink per hour. Alternate 'drink spacers' - non-alcoholic drinks such as water, soda or juice.

Eat

Eating before or while drinking slows alcohol absorption.

Drive time:

Think about how you're going to get home before you leave home - grab a cab or designate a driver.
