Deepika Padukone wants to change what success means for women

Deepika Padukone has shared a message about balancing success with stress load, which is seemingly directed at trolls who make fun of her late pregnancy.

She shared a note on her Instagram profile that read, “Look around where you are; see what you can do to change the definition of success… So women coming after you won’t feel like they have to choose between success and burnout.”

Currently expecting her first child, the actress has been subjected to all kinds of theories, rumors, and criticism for choosing to have a baby later on at age 38.

People even speculated whether she can carry a kid at all or if there are tiffs between her and husband Ranveer Singh, who has repeatedly expressed fondness for having children in interviews.

While Deepika once told Vogue, “We love children and look forward to the day when we will start our own family,” she feels there’s always a right time to settle for.

Previously opening about striking a work-life balance at the Jio MAMI 17th Mumbai Film Festival, the star said, “For me, to be truly successful is to be at peace with myself and to be happy every day.”

Since raising a child is a huge responsibility and Deepika is currently at the peak of her career, it’s understandable for fans if the star has chosen to become a mother when she thinks professional commitments can be put to rest.

As women are often told that their success is to “marry early, settle down early, and have kids early,” admirers are happy that celebrities such as her are changing its meaning.
