A Bering hermit crab (Pagurus beringanus) has its shell completely covered by a sponge, making it difficult to spot.  This crab prefers heavy thick shells, like one from a leafy hornmouth (Ceratostoma foliatum), as a home.  Bering hermit crabs have pale bluish walking legs with red dots and red banding.  The claws of this crab have many spines on them and are reddish in colour.  The carapace can grow to 1 inch (2.6 cm) in length, with a range from Amchitka Island and the Bering Sea to Monterey, California.
