5 Strategies for Finding A Way Out of Your Predicament

woman walking tightrope

As we travel along this pathway called life, we sometimes find our way into unpleasant or confusing situations that are difficult to get out of or solve.  That is a predicament.  I loved some of the synonyms for this word, such as bind, box, catch 22, dilemma, rabbit hole, pickle, or jam.  They paint a clearer picture of what a predicament is.

The Bible is full of these kinds of situations.  Let's look at a few and discover how they found their way out.

  • Don't panic!- Paul and Silas
  • In Acts 16:25, Paul and Silas find themselves in a hole, literally.  They were chained in prison, waiting to be put to death. Although I'm sure they were concerned and uncomfortable, they didn't focus on their situation.  When we are backed into a corner, we tend to focus on our problem, not our savior.  Instead, we should do as they did.  They prayed and sang to God.  Like Daniel, the three Hebrew boys, and many others, they believed God had a plan to deliver them. Rest assured, He has a plan for you also.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7

  • Inquire of the Lord-David
  • In 1 Samuel 30. David finds himself in a pickle. He and his men return home to find the Amalekites had raided Ziklag.  Their homes and businesses were burnt, their families and possessions were carried off.  The men were so distressed, they were ready to stone David.  The Bible says, but David found strength in the Lord.  One definition of the word strength here is to prevail on.  That is what David did, inquired of the Lord for what he should do.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.  James 1:5 NKJV

  • Ask for your eyes to be opened-Elisha
  • This story is found in 2 Kings 6. Syria was making war against Israel.  God was telling Elisha their plans, which were passed on to the king of Israel.

One morning, Elisha's servant got up early and found they were surrounded by the Syrian army.  The servant was frantic, exclaiming, "Oh no! What are we going to do!: But Elisha calmly replied, "Don't worry. There are more with us than there are who are with them.  Lord, please, open his eyes that he may see."  When his eyes were opened, he could see that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha.

Lovers of God have been given eyes to see
    with spiritual discernment
and ears to hear from God.  Proverbs 20:12 TPT

  • Be careful who you listen to-Job
  • Our dear brother, Job, found  himself in quite a fix. He was prosperous in all areas of his life one day, then disaster struck, and he lost everything.  As he was sitting in misery, his friends came by to visit and give him advice.  God was not happy with what they said.  He asked Job, "Why are you letting them confuse you?  They don't know what they are talking about.  Pull yourself together, get up on your feet."  God places friends around us to encourage and build us up, but we need to careful of what we are hearing.  Ask for discernment when getting advice from your friends.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend [who corrects out of love and concern],
But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful [because they serve his hidden agenda]. Proverbs 20:6 AMP

  • Be Strong and Courageous- Joshua
  • After Moses' death, Joshua found himself as leader of a nation.  It was now his responsibility to take the Promised land for God's people.  Moses got them there, but Joshua had to get them to possess it.  What a spot to be in.  Sometimes is takes strength and courage to get out of the predicament you are in.  God told Joshua not to be timid and don't get discouraged.  Go do what I told you to do. You will be successful because I will be with you.

This is My command: be strong and courageous. Never be afraid or discouraged because I am your God, the Eternal One, and I will remain with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 VOICE

It is when our back is to the wall, and we have nowhere else to turn, that we seek God with the most diligence. Knowing he has made a way out of our predicament is a gift of living the delightful life he has prearranged and made ready for us!

What do you do when you find yourself between a rock and a hard place?

    have a delightful day

My Bible study today focused on his deliverance from our predicaments. I love these verses as a compliment to that.
