The Corvallis Police Department is investigating a report of an explosion at McNary Field, a park on the east side of Oregon State University’s campus in Corvallis.

The explosion took place around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, October 30. CPD and medics from Corvallis Fire Department responded, and the Fire Department transported one person to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center with significant injuries.

The victim was reported to be a 22-year-old man from Cottage Grove. Preliminary reports indicate that he was not a student at OSU.

CPD and partner agencies deployed an aerial drone and a bomb-sniffing dog to ensure that the site was safe.

"The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation," CPD said. "There is no threat to the public at this time."

Portions of McNary Park will be closed to the public as CPD works through its investigation.

"Please avoid the park if at all possible."

Corvallis Police will be leading the investigation with support from OSU Public Safety, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Springfield Police Department, Corvallis Fire Department, and Oregon State Police.
