Dyan Chand : The Greatest player of Indian Hockey

Dhyan Chand ,an Indian field hockey player who was considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. Chand is most remembered for his goal-scoring feats and for his three Olympic gold medals (1928, 1932, and 1936) in field hockey, during an era where India was dominant in the sport.
Known as “The Wizard” for his superb ball control, Chand played his final international match in 1948, having scored more than 400 goals during his international career

Some amazing Facts about Dhyan Chand…

* Once, while playing a hockey game, Major Dhyan Chand was not able to score a goal against the opposition team. After several misses, he argued with the match referee regarding the measurement of th

e goal post, and amazingly, it was found to not be in conformation with the official width of a goal post (as prescribed under international rules).
* After India played its first match in the 1936 Olympics, Dhyan Chand’s magical stickwork drew crowds from other venues to the hockey field. A German newspaper carried a banner headline: ‘The Olympic complex now has a magic show too.’ The next day, there were posters all over Berlin: Visit the hockey stadium to watch the Indian magician Dhyan Chand in action.
* Example of the level of patriotism: After seeing his prolific play at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Adolf Hitler offered Dhyan Chand, a Major in the English Indian Army, German citizenship and an offer to promote him to the rank of a Colonel (which Dhyan Chand, of course, refused).
* In Holland, the authorities broke his hockey stick to check if there was a magnet inside.
* During the final of the 1936 Olympic hockey tournament, the Germans decided to play rough after 6 goals had been scored against them. Going for Dhyan, the German goalkeeper removed one of his teeth.Coming back after receiving first aid, Dhyan instructed his team mates not to score any more goals. “We must teach them a lesson in ball control,” he said. So they repeatedly took the ball up to the German circle and then back-passed to dumbfound our opponents. They ended up beating Germany 8-1, with Dhyan scoring 6 times.
* Cricket world’s legend Don Bradman and Hockey’s greatest player Dhyan Chand once came face to face at Adelaide in 1935, when the Indian hockey team was in Australia. After watching Dhyan Chand in action, Don Bradman remarked “He scores goals like runs in cricket”
* Residents of Vienna, Austria, honoured him by setting up a statue of him with four hands and four sticks, depicting his control and mastery over the ball.

SAP ISU Billing Tariff Design

Billing Class – usually it represents the customer class: residential, industrial, commercial, wholesale
Rate Category – represents the product that is sold to the customer
Rate – represents a unit of variant programs associated with a charge. For example if you calculate the energy charge for 4 products is better to create only one rate and use it for all 4 products
Schema: it contains the collection of the rates. Best practice is to have one schema for one rate category. This is better for readability of the schema.

Everything is linked in Is-u billing. At the Installation you have the rate category.
At the Device you have Rate type. Rate Determination is done based on Rate Category and Rate type. Rates have steps which calculate the Amount based on price keys and consumption. Multiple rates are included in a Billing Schema. Each Rate category is assigned to a billing schema.

Rate type can also be assigned at device, facts etc level. Rate type is another attribute for identification of Rate apart from rate category. A simple case is to determine rates using rate type assigned at register level.

Other cases can be – device rate type for device rental rate determination- Rate category Fact rate type to calculate some charges for all the customers belonging to a particular rate category having that rate type – Rate type can also be maintained at installation fact.

bsnl have two APN bsnlnet nd bsnllive.
Both have different bytes.
bsnlnet have 15 times more bytes than bsnllive.
So if you have GPRS balance suppose  x, then you can only use x data by bsnlnet APN. But u can use 15x data via bsnllive APN.
Thats it.

SAP IS-Utilities for Generation and Transmission Business

SAP IS-Utilities (IS-U) is an integrated component on ECC stack and is a part of Industry Solutions offered by SAP.  IS-U has evolved to meet the unique needs of the Utility Industry, such as Electricity, Water, Gas, etc.  SAP IS-U product evolution is very much aligned with the utility industry market trends such us un-bundling of utility business, de-regulation and smart metering solutions.
It has been observed that SAP IS-U is widely accepted in the Energy Retail space more than in Energy Generation and Transmission. There is a prevailing myth that SAP IS-U is only for the customer intensive Energy Retail Business … the reality is otherwise.
The belief is that IS-U is meant for customer centric solutions handling customer-care and billing in the B to C scenario. But the reality is that IS-U gives flexibility in handle metering operations, generation and transmission billing solutions in the B to B scenario as well.  Some classic examples are Tata Power, India and National Grid Transco, UK who use SAP ISU for generation billing and transmission billing respectively.

Even though the generation and transmission companies have fewer customers, the number of meters for individual customer in generation and transmission business is larger.  Handling large volumes of device attributes, meter readings, installation, removal, replacements, etc. are easy with SAP IS-U.  Since high voltages are involved, the metering infrastructure is mostly associated with Current Transformers (CTs) and Potential Transformers (PTs) for measurement purposes. The multiplication factors due to this CT and PTs are automatically taken into account while calculating consumption which eliminates both the need for manual calculations and development of separate programs for calculation. Also when the CTs and PTs are replaced by CTs and PTs of different ratios, the new ratios are automatically factored during calculations.

In the generation and transmission sector, the metering is spread across a large geographical area and it may involve complex calculations to arrive at the billing quantity. Additionally, the meters are mostly interval meters that necessitate handling of large volume of meter reading data. In certain cases, the interval data should also be used for billing computation. SAP IS-U is all the more appropriate in such cases as explained above.
As the generation and transmission utilities handle a large volume of energy there is a greater need for energy accounting. The transmission grid network can be mapped in SAP IS-U with network hierarchy which enables loss calculations. The Energy Data Management (EDM) component of SAP IS-U can be effectively used to mine and analyze historical data for reporting and forecasting.
Generation companies adhere to the schedule based on the frequency level of the grid given by the regulators to upload power in the grid. If the generation companies comply with the schedule and do not deviate from the limits they will be entitled to receive incentive from the regulator. Otherwise the generation companies will be penalized. Using the SAP ISU’s profile management parameters can be tracked and billings calculated which will be useful to verify the imbalance bills.
SAP IS-U can be leveraged effectively to meet the needs of the Generation & Transmission segments of the Utility industry and its deployment need not be restricted only to the Energy Retail space.

Outage System Centric
In this approach, all customer incident calls are routed to the outage management system (OMS). The OMS system aggregates all the reported incidents and coupled with the outages reported from SCADA, AMI systems etc., is able to pin point the reason and location of the outage. Based on the outage node, it is also able to determine the all the customers (or devices) that are impacted because of this outage. Once an outage has been identified, a work order is generated and sent to the work management system. The work order will have the information about the location of the outage, nature of outage, priority etc. The work management system in turn schedules the work and assign required field personnel to a particular work order (based on their schedules). The field personnel, while working on the outage, will also constantly report the expected restoration time to the work management system which in turn is updated in to the outage management system as well. If the customer calls regarding the status of the outage, the OMS system is able to provide them with the latest restoration time reported.

Customer System Centric
In this approach, all customer incident calls are routed through the customer information system that is the SAP ECC system. The SAP system in turn will integrate with the OMS system to either report an incident or if already reported, get the initial expected restoration time. The SAP ECC system will also create the work order for the work management system and receive the status of the work orders from the work order management system to report the expected restoration time to the customer.

The biggest advantage of customer system centric approach is that the various integration artifacts and interfaces built between the SAP ECC system and the work management system can be re-used for non-outage work order management processes as well. Also, since customer data resides in the customer system, it makes sense to route all customer incidents through this system.
On the other hand, the biggest advantage of outage system centric approach is the improved system performance whereby you are reducing the number of hops required to report outages. Also, depending on your implementation strategy, your call center will need all the processing power in the customer system to deal with customer calls, so it may make sense to route all other traffic, such as the ones through the IVR system to the OMS system.
Choosing an approach is purely dependent on your unique situation but one thing is for sure, the option you chose must meet the expectations set up by the regulators to handle the large call volumes during an outage situation. Not only customers want to report outages easily, it is also important to report the expected restoration time as accurately as possible and the outage restored as early as possible.
Utilities are known to use best of breed applications to deal with specific business process. As seen in this blog, they use field management systems for the field crew, work order management systems for work management, outage management systems for outage management, customer information systems (like SAP IS-U) for customer management, call center management system like SAP CRM etc. With best of breed systems come integration challenges but keeping a holistic view of the business process and innovative use of technology, it is possible to build seamless integration with these systems so that customers get the best service from utilities.

Complex Integration Scenarios and Integration Design Patterns for a Utility Bustiness

In this blog, we will discuss about some of the complex integration scenarios that we have to deal in the utilities business processes especially around Outage Management and Restoration.
Before we proceed further, please read this fine print. All the views provided below are my personal opinion and doesn’t necessarily reflect my employer’s. I work for my employer as a Billing consultant with a focus in Utilities Industry but every customer’s requirement is unique and you should definitely seek for professional opinion before making your business decisions. Treat the inputs in this blog series as just opinions, nothing more, and nothing less.
All of us have faced a utility outage situation at some point in our life. For e.g., a thunder storm can knock down power lines impacting thousands of customers in a single event. Such a wide spread outage event is a big deal for utilities because they are mandated by regulators to restore the outages within a stipulated period of time. Also, an outage means lost revenue. So the utilities are under constant pressure to detect the source of outage, organize the field crew and restore power as soon as they can. As customers, we don’t realize how complex the outage restoration process really is. Let me explain this with an example.
Assume that you live in a high rise condo that has 200 apartments. Consider an electric pole goes down in your street because of a thunder storm. This means all the customers who are downstream that pole will lose electric power. Now, if you happen to be one of those customers, you would first check your fuse and if everything is in order, report an outage to the utility. What you don’t know at the point is all the 200 customers in your condo and other customers down the street will be reporting an outage with the utility. What seems like an outage incident for 200 customers can actually be solved by fixing one single pole and here is where the utility needs to smart about dispatching its crew to fix it. It cannot raise 200 odd service orders for the field crew to fix the outage whereas it only needs to create one. To achieve this, Utilities generally use multiple systems to triangulate the issue and resolve the outage. These systems are –

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) – During an outage scenario, this is the first system you will encounter as a customer. The IVR system usually integrates with the customer information system (in our case SAP ECC – IS/U) to identify your account information (for e.g. based on your registered phone number) and once identified, it registers your outage as an incident or trouble ticket in an outage management system (more on this later)
Customer self-service portal – If you are like me who has very little patience for recorded messages, utilities provide a self-service portal for reporting outages as well. This could be a web portal where customers can log in to report outages or other communication channels like web chat, SMS or emails. Of course, smart phones play a major role in this.
Customer Relationship Management – Sometimes an outage could be an emergency event as well. For e.g., a live wire because of a pole going down creates electric shock hazard and in such cases, the customer may have to speak to a customer service agent so that they can dispatch a field crew immediately to fix it. The customer service agent will have access the customer information through SAP CRM system.
Outage Management System (OMS) – These are pretty sophisticated piece of software that is capable of taking inputs from SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) systems etc. and coupled with the various outage incidents reported by customers to predict the reason for the outage. Once predicted, it also tries to predict the expected restoration time for the outage. Then it sends work orders to the work management system so as to mobilize the field crews to fix the outage.
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) – The GIS system provides geo-spatial information about the various utility nodes. This information is vital in triangulating the source of the outage so that the field crew can be provided with enough information to identify the location of outage.
Work Management System (WMS) – These systems are used to manage the work for both outage restoration and non-outage scenarios. In the context of outage restoration, they also deal with scheduling of various field crews including emergency field crews. It also integrates with mobile work management systems to capture the latest status on the outage restoration work so that it can relay back the realistic expected restoration back to customer information and outage management systems.

In an SAP implementation, at a bare minimum, we have to integrate the backend SAP ECC system with the systems listed above so that outages can be identified and fixed in time. Usually there are other systems like Fleet Management, Complex scheduling systems etc. but for the purpose of simplicity, we will only deal with integration with the above systems.

I phone 5 vs. Samsung vs. Nokia Lumia

For many people, the iPhone is going to be a case of love at first touch but the love will not be a longer one.. IPhone 5 Feature had be disappointing to us and many tech gurus as compared to Samsung and Nokia lot of feature  where expected by apple iconic IPhone 5. IPhone 5 missed the following feature as compared to others

1.Wireless charging(Nokia Lumia and Samsung S3 Gives)

2.NFC(Near field communication   which is one of the feature that should have been included by IPhone because they have introduced Passbook Application to store passwords and credit card info) NFC is available with Nokia Lumia 810 and Samsung S3.

3.Google Maps and You tube has been removed and replaced by a native 3d application with a  voice siri voice guidance which we are sure will not be a up to a mark initially as compared to Google map vast experience.User can download you tube from the market.

4.As compared to 4S Battery life has not been increased but screen see has been increased with improvement in process power factor so more or less it is equal or less then IPhone 4S

5. 4-inch display with iPhone 5. 3.5-incher with IPhone 4s but Samsung galaxy S3 has 4.8 inch

6.IPhone 5 Screen resolution 1136 x 640 pixels at 326ppi whereas 1280 x 720 pixels at 306ppi.

7.Apple iPhone has A6 Dual core processor and IPhone 4s has A5 single core processor whereas Samsung has advanced Exynos 4 Quad chipset (or Snapdragon S4  Quad Processor)

8. Apple has also revamped the rear camera of iPhone 5. It is to advance with an 8MP insight camera that highlights Panorama, 1080p video recording, autofocus, LED flash and other features. A 1.2MP Face Time HD camera is meant for video chats. The S3 also has a powerful 8MP rear camera with 1080p video recording and 1.9MP front camera.

9.  Since Apple has changed it’s 31 Connector dock and accessories to 19 pin connector stating less slick design but this might really be a very costly affair for iPhone users.

10. Apple IPhone 5 use Nano Sim and this seems very normal thing but consider that theses are smart phone and hence they are bound to run out of power in so many occasion and after that cell is off !!! but generally people carry another cell and they replace the sim with the IPhone Sim’s Number but in this case it will not be possible as Apple IPhone will use a Nano sim which will be never be able to fit in a Normal Phone.

Unlike Samsung galaxy S3 will also run out of p0wer but you would have a option to replace the cell with other and let you number be alive.Nokia Lumia also uses a Micro sim which is currently being used by iPhone 4S

11. But at the end leaving apart the disadvantages what is the cost that matters IPhone 4s currently in India is around 44,500 which will be reduced and as a result IPhone 5 will be placed as that.Since now iPhone 4s price are bound to be decreased this will be a perfect competition to Samsung galaxy s2.On price basis Apple has always elevated its price but still it is never up to the mark IPhone 4s with decreased price might be good.

12. Nokia has developed its new Windows Phone handset with a 4.5-inch IPS display. The device certainly defies iPhone 5 with its wonderful screen of 1280 x 768 pixel resolution at an outstanding 332ppi. Its display is further affluent with the company’s much-reviewed Clear Black technology for great colors and contrast and the advanced Pure Motion HD+ for evidently ‘better than HD’ clarity.

13. Nokia has slotted a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 ARM Cortex-A9 processor in Lumia 920. The top-of-the-line semiconductor can certainly provide much strength for the device, which is to mount 1GB of RAM and Adreno 225 GPU for additional force. Of course, it is the first WP handset from Nokia to turn up with a multi core CPU. Regarding the processing unit of its new handset, Apple has  new A6 processor Dual core . The company added that the new chipset will perform two times better than A5 in iPhone 4S.

14. Lumia 920 is to come with 32GB of onboard storage, whereas iPhone 5 will have three memory variants; 16GB, 32GB and 64GB like its precursor. Both devices don’t have microSD slot for memory expansion.

perceptible to the naked eye, so it’s really a matter of which size display you prefer, and which size feels more comfortable to hold.
