Following three months of extensive renovations and modernization efforts, El Paso's landmark Star on the Mountain will once again light up Franklin Mountain Wednesday.

The El Paso Chamber announced Monday that it completed extensive renovations to the iconic Star on the Mountain, and will be unveiling the finished product at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on its various social media accounts.

Beginning Sept. 12, the El Paso Chamber has embarked on a substantial enhancement project for the landmark, with a primary focus on bolstering energy efficiency and incorporating state-of-the-art technological infrastructure, the Chamber said in a statement.

For instance, El Paso residents can now engage with the newly updated Star by requesting a change in color through the Starlighter Request feature at elpaso.org.

Andrea Hutchins, President and CEO of the El Paso Chamber, said,

We are excited to reveal the modernized Star on the Mountain. To the people of El Paso, this star is more than just a landmark; it embodies our pride and symbolizes the enduring spirit of our community. This collaborative project, funded by both the El Paso Chamber and the El Paso Chamber Foundation, not only ensures the preservation but also elevates this beloved emblem of our home.

The El Paso Chamber will be holding a virtual celebration at 6:30 p.m. on its YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram platforms, where El Pasoans can witness the relighting.

The El Paso Chamber, in collaboration with the Chamber's Foundation, noted that it has made a significant investment in the Star's infrastructure.

Emphasizing the importance of this investment, the foundation aims to enhance the security and modern capabilities of the infrastructure.

Not only will it be more energy-efficient, but the infrastructure will also be sturdier than the original, ensuring visibility for years to come.

For those interested, the original bulbs from the Star are available for a $1,000 donation in the commemorative star case at elpaso.org, with proceeds going towards funding the renovations.
