Easy Ham Steak Dinner

Ham is a terrific ingredient that cooks fast and is easy to work with. This is why it works perfectly in this ham steak recipe! With juicy green beans and tender potatoes, you will have a wonderful and delicious meal the whole family will love. The Italian dressing mix is the star here because it provides extra flavor without spending money on lots of herbs and spices. It helps make the veggies taste great while also minimizing the work needed from you! I do add a couple of basic spices as well but I tend to always have them on hand in my pantry whenever making this dish.

Recipe Ingredients

We love super simple dinner recipes with easy-to-find and budget-friendly ingredients! The exact measurements for each one can be found on the recipe card.

  • Boneless ham steaks: These ham steaks are easy to find at any grocery store. You can also use leftover ham steaks from another meal, just keep in mind that they don’t need to cook as long.
  • Green beans: I love fresh green beans for this recipe. I do not recommend canned or frozen because they do not cook at the same rate.
  • Baby potatoes: Any variety of baby potatoes are fine. I use yellow or gold but baby red potatoes are great, too.
  • Oil: Olive oil or avocado oil are my favorites for roasting. I used olive oil for this recipe.
  • Dry Italian dressing mix: This is where you get a lot of great flavors. You can find this in the condiment aisle at the grocery store.
  • Seasonings: For this ham steak recipe, I use paprika, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. I like to keep it simple so the flavors from the Italian mix and brown sugar all come together well.
  • Brown sugar: This is the secret to any tasty sweet glaze for ham.
  • Honey: I like the addition of honey for a little extra sweetness.
  • Water: A splash of water prevents the glaze from becoming too thick and makes it much easier to brush onto the ham steaks.

How To Make This Ham Steak Recipe

Once everything is seasoned, it goes on the pan and bakes! Total prep time should take you less than 10 minutes.

  • Preheat oven. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Mix seasonings. Combine Italian seasoning with the remainder of the seasonings in a small bowl and divide in half.
  • Season potatoes. Coat the potatoes with half the seasoning blend and 2 tablespoons of oil.
  • Season green beans. Coat the green beans with the remaining seasoning and oil.
  • Add ingredients to the sheet pan. Arrange the potatoes on the sheet pan and place the green beans next to them. Add the ham steaks in a single layer on the pan as well.
  • Make glaze. Add the second envelope of Italian mix to a bowl with brown sugar, honey, and water. Whisk until the mixture is combined.
  • Brush ham. Brush each slice generously with the sweet brown sugar glaze.
  • Bake. Put the pan in the oven and bake for 40 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and cooked through.
  • Serve. Portion onto plates and enjoy!

Tips and Variations

  • Veggies: Make broccoli or carrots instead of the green beans.
  • Potatoes: Feel free to use red potatoes or Russet. Just peel and chop them into 1-inch pieces.
  • Slice the ham: Slice the ham steaks in half to easily arrange them on the sheet pan. If you prefer or can only get bone-in ham steaks that is ok. Just remove the bone before serving your family.
  • Cooking time: If you find that the ham and green beans are cooked before the potatoes, you may remove them from the sheet pan and continue to cook the potatoes. Keep them warm by wrapping them with aluminum foil.

Storage Directions

Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container. They will stay fresh for up to 4 days. These leftovers make a great addition to a hearty breakfast or quick brunch menu. Reheat in the microwave on high for 1-3 minutes. I recommend covering the microwave-safe plate with a damp paper towel to keep the ham from drying out.

My adult grandson is a big fan of fresh vegetables. Me, not so much, I’m not a big fan of green veggies. However, my grandson LOVED this recipe! I also loved it. Thanks for the recipe.
