You Look Easy To Draw is a catchphrase known as a rare insult used to make fun of someone with a simple or cartoonish face. The phrase is predominantly used on Twitter / X and TikTok and is often followed by an artist drawing the person. The phrase was coined on Twitter / X after a viral thread was screenshotted and reposted online.

Origin

On March 25th, 2020, X^[1] user @KonMalick5 posted a photo of himself (shown below, left). Then, X^[2] user @sewphy replied to him on March 26th, saying, "U look easy to draw." @KonMalick5 replied, "Try," and then @sewphy responded with a doodle of him. Over two years,^[3] @sewphy's drawing gained roughly 5,300 likes (shown below, right).

On May 26th, 2020, iFunnier^[4] @coughing posted a long image that included the entire thread, gaining over 40 smiles in four years (shown below). It is currently the first known upload of the screenshots.

On April 6th, 2020, TikToker^[9] @hoeash3s posted a duet in which she claimed that the other person was easy to draw, gaining over 200,000 plays and 28,000 likes in four years (shown below, left).

On November 12th, 2020, iFunnier^[5] @aahoncho posted a lower quality and square-cropped version of the long meme, gaining roughly 54,400 smiles in four years. Soon after, on November 12th, 2020, TikToker^[6] @darswishmemes posted a video with the image layered over him, receiving roughly 1.4 million plays and 266,100 likes in four years (shown below, right).

A few months later, on May 26th, 2021, X^[7] user @JUSMITHOUGHTS1 posted the long image, receiving roughly 438,000 likes in three years. Viral reposts of the image persisted on X^[8] in 2022.

In 2022, memetic usage of the phrase persisted on TikTok, evident in a video posted by TikToker^[10] @justinhanjob on October 7th, 2022, which received roughly 1.5 million plays and 224,000 likes in two years (shown below).

On January 3rd, 2023, Instagram^[11] user @demonpeaks made a Twin Peaks meme with the template of the original thread, gaining over 130 likes in one year (shown below, left).

On December 3rd, 2023, X^[12] user @TyriFoucha replied to rapper Sexyy Red with the phrase after she made a drawing of a guy, gaining over 530 likes in a month (shown below, right).
