Lao Culture, Food To Be Showcased At 12th Int’l Cultural Festival

KPL (KPL) Lao culture and food will be showcased at the 12th International Cultural and Customs Exhibition on May10, 2018 at Shanghai University, Shanghai, China.

(KPL) Lao culture and food will be showcased at the 12th International Cultural and Customs Exhibition on May10, 2018 at Shanghai University, Shanghai, China.

There will be more than 40 international cultural booths at the upcoming event, according to Mr Sa Qiang, Master Student Counselor at Shanghai University.

Launched in 2007, the International Cultural and Customs Exhibition aims to promote cultural exchange among Chinese and foreign students and enhance the traditional culture understanding among international students and their host fellows.

The event will start from 10:00 am to 16 pm in Shanghai University, Baoshan campus.

“Sideline events of the festival include the exhibition of dazzling handcrafts, gorgeous folk costumes, charming folk dances and various kinds of performances by Chinese and international students,” Mr Sa Qiang said.

He said that the event is not only for cultural and customs exhibition but also for promoting exchange of diverse unique cultures among participating countries and strengthening the friendship between Chinese and international students.

Last year, there were almost 50 international cultural booths at the exhibition. They represented Laos, America, Columbia, Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Poland, Thailand, Vietnam and three domestic Chinese private companies namely Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd, Bank of China and Labare Scientific China Limited.

More than 4,000 international students from over 100 countries in Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and America have been studying at Shanghai University. These include over fifteen Lao students.

Mr Vilakorn Inthavong, a Lao year-two master student and President of International Students Association of Shanghai University said that last year Lao students also participated in and sold Lao foods at the festival.

“This year, we are going to show our traditional culture, and sell coconut jelly and Beerlao,” said Mr Vilakorn.

“This year we will prepare exhibitions of photos of our Majesty King, national flag, souvenirs, traditional cloths, and sell foods,” said Mr Houn Sophanara, a Cambodian master student. 

A Vietnamese master student Pham Thi Xuan Huong said that last year, Vietnamese students performed Bamboo Hat Dance and sold foods and this year they will prepare Vietnamese spring roll for sales, and dance.  

A Chinese master student Chen Xinrui said that last year her Chinese fellows showed Chinese costume dance and Chinese musical instrument performance but this year they will come up with different kinds of traditional shows.
