Dear friends, it is with great joy and pride that we present to you our new single “Poludnica”!
Recorded in the very beating heart of the Rhodope mountains, at an extremely energy-fueled spot that few know of, it will transfer you to another place and time. We made it with plenty of excitement and inspiration while singing and playing, feeling cold in the fog and drizzling rain. (Thus commanded Mother Nature then. Although the poludnica is a summer spirit, her dark and treacherous character is perfectly illustrated by the gloomy mountain weather.)
We’ve said this live at concerts, and we’re saying it now – it’s a song that is still in its early stage of creation, but we have plans of turning it into a true monster of sound. We gift it to you now in its mountain version which is extremely organic, pure, and powerful – just the vocals, a hint of didgeridoo, and the new addition to our instruments – the Bulgarian tupan!
“Poludnica” will take you back to the scorching summer seasons of the past where you’ll meet the Bulgarians of Olden times. The song illustrates an encounter and a dialogue between a belated worker on the fields with the female demon. He begs of her to let him go because he has a family and the harvest is approaching, but she declines and tells him that he broke her rules and he’s working in the hottest hours of the day, when people are expected to be inside. She tells him to leave all he loves behind and to go with her.
Where to? Only she knows…
lyrics
POLUDNICA
“Poludnica, She Devil,
release me and go away.
A scythe you lifted above my soul
but the harvest is coming – let me go!
Poludnica, She Demon,
leave, go to the forest, leave me alone.
My soul does not wish to follow you,
put your scythe away, have mercy on me!”
“Noon has already passed, join me, now come!
Put down the wheat sheaf and leave your home.
You crossed me and my word – why are you working?
Come now with me, leave your home behind!
In the forest tall and old cross the river deep and cold,
forget your small children and your young wife.
Why are you working? You crossed me and my word –
now it is time to pay.”
