A rare white bison calf was recently born at Bear River State Park in Evanston, Wyo.

According to members of the National Bison Association, the birth of a white bison is a one-in-10-million occurrence.

RELATED STORIES:

Not to be mistaken for albino bison, these white bison are celebrated and worshiped by many American Indian tribes.

Officials of Bear River said that their white calf was brought into the world in the early hours of May 16 by one of the two only other white bison at the park.

The coloration is reportedly a result of a very small amount of cattle genetics that were mixed in with the bison's DNA, rather than a gene fluke like like albinism.
