    Geraniaceae: A trailing perennial growing to 30cm (1ft). Found in grassy places in lowland areas. White or pale pink flowers produced in succession from early summer into late autumn. Low growing stems which root wherever it creeps. Native to East Asia - China, Japan, Korea.

     

    USES:

    Young leaves can be used as a tea substitute.

    Geraniin is a dehydroellagitannin found in geraniums. It is found for instance in Geranium thunbergii, which is one of the most popular folk medicines and an official antidiarrheic drug in Japan.

     

    GROWING INFORMATION:

    Sow seeds in spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Succeeds in any moderately fertile retentive soil in a sunny position.
