  • Deciduous multistemmed shrub, somewhat sprawling, to 3-6 ft (0.9-1.8 m) tall.  Leaves rounded, 3-6 cm wide, thin, the 3(5) lobes obtuse, margin has small rounded teeth (crenate), bright green, underside sparingly pubescent or nearly hairless (glabrous).  Flowers in drooping clusters, reddish to soft pink, petals barely flaring, flowers smaller than those of R. sanguineum  Fruit blue, 8 mm thick, waxy bloom, glandular.
  • Sun to light shade, occasional summer water needed.  Can grow in almost standing water yet some say it handles drought well, whereas others indicate that its drought tolerance is low.
  • Hardy to USDA Zone 6      Native to southern Oregon, Nevada and California; found in mountains (4500-7500 ft) in moist sites and stream banks.
