Oenothera hookeri
Western native biennial growing 2-6' high. Bright-yellow 3" flowers open late afternoon, and turn orange once pollinated. Competes well with grasses. Has a very long bloom time, which is much appreciated by hummingbirds. This wildflower is a very strong reseeder.

The seeds of evening primrose can be toasted and put on the outside of bread or on rice or breakfast cereal. They are delicious and full of linoleic acid.
