Phnom Penh (VNA) – President of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) Sao Sokha has stated that the 32nd SEA Games shows the development of football and other sports in the country.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of the sponsor agreement between the FFC and the Vattanac Brewery Ltd, Sao Sokha emphasised that football is popular both in the world and in Cambodia, and the main goal of promoting this sport is not only about the competition but also to raise awareness in terms of welfare, education, discipline, morality, mutual respect, solidarity, friendship, economic, relations, culture, and tourism as well.”

He affirmed that the FFC hopes to boost Cambodian football’s development through projects in the future.

The 32nd SEA Games is the largest sporting event that Cambodia hosts.

The Cambodia national U22 men's football team is in Thailand for the last training session before the SEA Games qualifiers begin.

At the 32nd SEA Games, the Cambodia U22 football team is in Group A with Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Timor Leste; while Vietnam is in Group B with Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Laos. Cambodia will start its first match against Timor-Leste on April 29.

Meanwhile, the Cambodian women's football team is in Group B with those of Thailand, Singapore, and Laos, while Group A also has four teams of Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar, and Malaysia./.
