Botany and Ecology
Tree, 20 m tall, with spines, especially when young. The twigs are smooth or slightly hairy when young. The leaves are ovate-elliptic to ovate-orbicular, 3–5 (7) × 1.5–4 cm, two times as long as wide, entire or crenate-serrulate, sparsely pubescent when young, becoming smooth, green, shiny above, drying blackish, base rounded or subcordate.
