Abstract

Gobiopsis canalis Lachner & McKinney, is reported from the east coast of India, Bay of Bengal for the first time, by studying two specimens collected from West Bengal, India. All the previously studied specimens of G. canalis were from the western Indian Ocean, this study adds to its ecological adaptability and distribution in the eastern Indian Ocean with the morphometric details. Also, a description of morphological comparisons with congeners living along the Indian coast is provided herein.
