Abstract

Metabolic lung diseases constitute a heterogeneous group of disorders that occur in the setting of altered biochemical homeostasis. Most of these diseases are uncommon or rare. Pulmonary disease in affected patients is most commonly a facet of systemic disease. The more common metabolic lung diseases include pulmonary calcification and ossification, pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis, pulmonary amyloidosis, and pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP).
