Abstract
Archaeological, technological, and compositional research undertaken for more than half a century in Mesoamerica has shed considerable light on the development of a unique ceramic technology for the production of highly distinctive glazed ware. The remarkable technological and aesthetic achievements of the Plumbate potters may be best characterized as an adaptation of pyrotechnology to match available raw materials and markets.
