Albert Pujols injury: Angels 1B had minor knee surgery last week in St. Louis

Albert Pujols underwent a minor surgery in St. Louis on Oct. 9 to clean up his right knee, according to the Los Angeles Times. Pujols is already back to conditioning and should be 100 percent healthy in a month, Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto told the paper.

Pujols initially injured his right knee and calf on a slide into second base against the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 22. He missed four games but returned and played mostly as a designated hitter in the final 34 games of the year.

"We'll never know how much pain he was in because this guy is incredibly tough, mentally and physically, and he doesn't say much," Dipoto said. "But it was pretty evident over the last six weeks that he was hobbled to a degree. Still, he did an incredible job of producing. I'd like to see him play without the pain."

Despite being injured, Pujols' production hardly wavered. The three-time MVP hit .291 in that span with 19 RBIs and two home runs. Pujols finished the year with a .285 average to go along with 30 home runs and 105 RBIs.

He signed a 10-year contract with the Angels in December.
