UALR Losses 3-0 Match to Florida International

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?The UALR volleyball team lost 3-0 (22-30, 18-30, 31-33) to Florida International Sunday at the Jack Stephens Center.  The Trojans fall to 12-16 overall and 5-6 in the Sun Belt Conference.

 

Amila Barakovic led the Trojans with 20 kills and a .368 attack percentage.  She also led the team in digs with nine.

 

Three Golden Panthers scored in double-digit kills and digs with Yarimar Rosa leading the team with 18 kills and Andra Rasby with 15 digs.

 

In game one, FIU recorded 24 kills on 43 attempts and seven errors for a .395 percentage, while the Trojans recorded nine kills on 37 attempts and three errors for a .162 percentage.

 

The Golden Panthers jumped to an early 3-0 lead, but the Trojans fought back to tie the score at six on a service ace by Sanda Dzile.  An attack error by FIU would give the Trojans their first lead.

 

UALR led by as many as three points, before the Golden Panthers knocked down six consecutive points to take the 24-18 advantage.

 

FIU won the game on a kill by Keila Oliveira.

 

In game two, the Trojans took an early 5-2 lead, but FIU knocked down seven straight points to hold the advantage.

 

UALR came within two, but the Golden Panthers won the game 30-18.

 

In game three, UALR recorded a .400 attack percentage, while FIU recorded a .528 attack percentage.

 

The Trojans jumped to 2-0 lead on two kills by Barakovic.

 

The lead changed hands between teams with the score tying 11 times.

 

At game point for the Trojans, FIU scored two points on a kill by Rosa and an attack error by UALR to tie the score at 29.

 

A kill by Barakovic put the Trojans again at game point, but the Golden Panthers scored two points on a kill by Rosa and a UALR attack error for match point at 31-30.

 

Barakovic knocked down another kill to tie the score before kills by Olga Vergun and Arasay Guerra won the game and match 33-31.

 

UALR continues conference action on Tuesday as they host in-state rivals Arkansas State.  Match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
