Paul Wesley became a heartthrob after he starred in the lead in The Vampire Diaries. The actor acted opposite Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder on the hit series from 2009 to 2017. But Wesley doesn’t particularly miss playing Stefan Salvatore, the simple, brooding vampire.
The actor revealed in a recent interview with InStyle that he would never do "another vampire anything…let alone Vampire Diaries".
Although he earned his fame thanks to the show, he doesn’t “really miss anything about playing him (Stefan)”, he confessed. Wesley was quick to add that “I don’t mean that in a (negative way)”.
"Eight years is a long time, and I’m so glad to put that to rest. Eight seasons," he exclaimed.
Wesley went on to add that he appreciates “how dynamic” his character was, because the show ran for many seasons and the team made sure it was not monotonous.
“Every season, he (Stefan) had a different arc,” the actor said. At one point, “he was pure evil”, having started as the good guy and then “he ended as the good guy”.
Paul Wesley admitted that he liked the “challenge” of trying to “keep the character fresh”.
The actor now wants to move on from the character of Stefan. “It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever done, as far as popularity,” he said, adding that he has done other roles since The Vampire Diaries, but “nothing has been nearly as popular”
He wants to do “that next thing” that would have people talking about him again, and “not the character that you’re known for playing”.
“I like to just create my own path. It’s very rewarding,” he concluded.
