Food: The menu boasts an impressive array of German cuisine. The salad bowl is notably generous, accompanied by delightful bread. We opted for schnitzel, fish, and pork for our main courses--all of which were exceptionally flavorful and tender.
Drinks: The wine selection, sourced from their own vineyard, is commendable.
Service: The service is outstanding, attentive, and accommodating, with a special mention for being dog-friendly. They thoughtfully provided a drinking bowl for our canine companion.
Ambiance: The setting is inviting, characterized by a bright and elegant interior design, creating a relaxed and speak-easy atmosphere.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sue J.WY, WY0129Dec 27, 2023
While in town visiting Würzburg, Bürgerspital is a wonderful place to gather with friends and family. During the Christmas holiday season, reservations are recommended. So full of holiday cheer was it, that I do not believe you will find a place to sit without a reservation. Our server was a true pleasure as he was very friendly and attentive. The menu had many choices to accommodate most diets to include vegetarian. I look forward to returning in the future. Also, if you are interested, looking into the history of Bürgerspital within the community!

Wonderful place. We ordered 3 wine flights but you could share one wine flight with 3 people. Very generous pours. I ordered the 4 course menu that came with a trout sandwich.. so goid!, pumpkin soup, lamb, and a type of donut dessert. The others ordered a steak and sauerbraten. The steaks are huge!! Our table was full of wine glasses by the end of the night. The staff was so helpful and spoke about the wine and provided input on the foods.

Very fancy looking on exterior and interior, but casual atmosphere for dining with tons of tables. Great for large groups and small families. Seats in large private courtyard or inside. There's also a small bar area to sit at.
Food was delicious and best we've had for our 1st week in Germany!
Poor rating was for the following:
Waitress forgot wine order for half of table and when asked about where glass of wine was for one of our guests she said she forgot it. It still took about 10 minutes after she was reminded for the glass of wine.
Main course took over an hour to get after ordering! They were extremely fast with kids meatloaf and brought it already split on two plates, which was awesome! However, kids finished and were tired and it wasn't until about 45 minutes after the kids finished that they brought our main courses. While we appreciate the kids order being fast, it doesn't help if the kids have to wait 45 minutes for the rest of the table to even get their food and then time for them to enjoy the meal. When they brought the kid dish they brought a cheese appetizer that was ordered but the main dishes we think got lost in the shuffle with a huge party that came in after us.
Food and atmosphere were great! Service slow.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kiki R.Broomfield, CO1419846Mar 25, 2019
The service from Alice was excellent but the food was just okay, overall. I loved my vegetarian spring roll with sweet potato mash - rich enough to be a satisfying meal. My husband rated his burger as a 7/10. The beet and goat cheese starter was fine, but not exceptional. The bread and fresh curd was okay but not great. We enjoyed the atmosphere and our wine choices and would go back for a drink, but probably not a meal. Nothing "wrong" with it, just not exceptional for the price.

As a disclaimer, this is the viewpoint of a non-German tourist and while I enjoy German food, it's not mother's milk to me, and I am not an expert on the cuisine.
That said, I found this Weinstuben to be the best restaurant at which I've eaten on my various trips to Germany. My wife and I ordered from the more contemporary menu (they seemingly have two: one with more traditional dishes, and one that is "modern German/European"); this was partly because we wanted to try something different and take a small break from old school biergarten or wienstuben fare.
The interior is very attractive, and a mix of 16th century winecellar interiors with modern touches, like LED tracklights, modernist tables and chairs, etc. The combination is quite striking and sets the tone for what you can expect.
My "Back of Roebuck with Cherrykraut and Schupfnudeln" was excellent. The venison was tender and rich without being gamey, and I very much enjoyed the twist on Sauerkraut as it was milder, and a bit sweet.
My wife's Pan Fried Salmon with Ricecream, mediterranian Vegetables and Basil foam was also quite good. We also shared the Spargel (Asparagus) Franconian style. The server was very willing to put the butter on the side rather than on top of the dish so that we could control that -- which was nice.
As a special mention, the servers were universally all very nice. In general, we found Würzburg to have some of the friendliest, most open people of any German city we visited.
The dessert wasn't quite as good, bordering on mediocre. Part of this is that I suspect we received the wrong item. We ordered the Tarte from White Chocolate and Strawberries with Woodruff Foam. After eating it for a bit, the wife and I came to the conclusion that what we were really eating was the Curd Dumpling with Compote from Strawberry and Rhubarb. I will say the presentation was beautiful.
The Franconian wines are products of the Bürgerspital wineries, which we had sampled earlier and were quite good -- if a bit stronger than we are conditioned to for wine.
I will mention that this restaurant is a bit on the pricey side when compared to the stalls in the market, etc. However, as I said earlier, if you are looking for a change of pace from super traditional preparations of German/Franconian fare, this is a great option.
It didn't seem to be that widely frequented, not even having an entry here on Yelp!, despite being a Michelin guide restaurant and seemingly having received numerous awards from both culinary associations and Würzburg itself.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Nancy Z.Bay Harbor Islands, FL632127Sep 10, 2017
After having Pork Shoulder as a staple in our vacation in Germany . I must say this was the Best crispy style I have had . The gravy was spectacular! The wine is a local wine and it was soft / medium body . Went well with the dish . No desert as we will walk around and perhaps have an expresso elsewhere .

Many past rave reviews, but we left disappointed. Courtyard is nice venue, food is okay ,(vegetarians beware, very little for you). Lack of vegetarian options and very poor service left us sad. Based on today's experience, I would not recommend to anyone. There was a corporate group there, but traffic should not be an excuse for poor service to others.
