Easter Sunday we're finding ourselves in Shelburne Falls...We ask a local "Anyplace open for lunch?"
He says "Try Le Peacock, right over there.."

If you don't know this is here you might walk right by it and mis out on a little gem.
It's the door on the right with the window. Head downstairs and enjoy.
We had some great cocktails. The maple old fashioned was perfectly made. Hard to have just one...but it is lunch. Speaking of lunch, the food was great. The Shrimp Po'Boy was phenomenal! I commented to the server that it was some of the best shrimp I'd ever had. He said they soak it overnight in buttermilk. The bread was a perfect soft and crispy baguette and the combination of sauces and toppings all went together beautifully. The fries are delicious.
Speaking of fries, they have great poutine. It's definitely a meal. Tasty.
      House burger was also great.
      Good prices as well.
Oh, don't miss checking out the themed bathroom!

We were wondering whether a speakeasy was for us, considering no phone & no reservations. Would we be standing up & shouting at each other over the din while sipping overpriced drinks? But Le Peacock turned out to be our kind of speakeasy - a welcoming grotto with subtle lighting, unique decor, Instagram worthy peacock wallpaper, and a Purple Rain themed restroom. We sat at the bar until a table came open (not long wait) and the staff made sure we had everything we wanted, including reasonably priced drinks. The room was lively but not too loud, except when we may have cranked The Captain & Tennille's "Muskrat Love" on YouTube to remind ourselves of forgotten lyrics. It happens.

      Thank you Shelburne Falls!

I wanna see your peacock .......

This hidden gem in Shelburne Falls just opened, which is tucked below 10 Bridge Street in the former Salsa and El Sotano space. Le Peacock is a very cozy speakeasy serving up a variety of drinks including draft beer, wine, and cocktails. For food, they offer a selection of cold plates, hot plates, and bigger plates at reasonable prices.

This cellar layout is very cozy and inviting, which has interesting decor including peacock wallpaper and open brick walls. There is seating at the bar, high top table, soft sofa seating, and table seating along the walls. Each table has a vase with peacock feathers.

I stopped in at Le Peacock on my way to the Berkshires. I entered the place through a small entranceway and downstairs to Le Peacock which was very busy. I was able to find an open table and took a seat. The server arrived with menus and brought out a glass and vase of cold water. I was here for the food and perused the menu which offered cold plates mezze plate, venison plate, canned fish, smoked salmon), hot plates (mushroom & barley porridge,  mussels, white beans & marinated shrimp, clam chowder), and bigger plates (pork skewers, Le Peacock burger, Austrian pork goulash).

I decided on two bigger plates, Le Peacock Burger ($12 plus tax) and the Austrian Pork Goulash ($16 plus tax). Since the place was very busy with limited staffing, it took a bit for the food to arrive. Both plates arrived hot. The popular Le Peacock Burger served open face had a thick soft grilled patty (medium rare) topped with melted American cheese, shredded lettuce, creamy Peacock sauce on a soft toasted bun. The thick cuts of fries were crisp seasoned with salt & pepper. The Austrian Pork Goulash was served in a small deep bowl with soft egg noodles, sour cream, paprika, fresh dill and tender stewed pork pieces (meat and some fat), served with thick crackers. The food here was quite good and i was definitely full after eating two plates.  I requested the check as the place was still very busy. The dinner check was $29.75 with tax and before tip, which had a QR code to pay online via ToastTab. I paid online and was able to promptly head back out on the road.

Overall, Le Peacock is a nice cozy local speakeasy where I enjoyed a good dinner at a fair price. I did not see any desserts on the menu (yet) on this visit, probably since they have only been open for a few days at the time of this posting. I will stop in again to try other plates.

Gypsy Apple owner Michaelangelo has hit it out of park with his well decorated cool Speakeasy vibe. They are still working out kinks...but the cocktails are amazing and food is....well what would expect from this guy?...fantastic. Tonight had guest bartender Ishan's Mediteranean Icetea. Five different liquors come together for the most unique yummy cocktail. The classic reuben was perfectly cooked and presented with nice fries. On prior occasions had soups, burger, and salmon and great cocktails. An experience every time!

I stopped in for a drink on the way through, I had a maple old fashioned which was excellent. Very clean and upscale environment but the prices are very reasonable. I'm looking forward to returning for lunch or dinner as the food I saw going by looked delicious. The bartender Matt was excellent and treated me like family!

Went for my birthday and while they were working out a few kinks it was still fabulous fun. Excellent crafted cocktails and the grits with an egg topper was surprisingly delicious. Soups and salads were enjoyed by all. The bar and decor is simply fun. Really does feel like a Speakeasy. Small and intimate but very lively. Can't wait to see how they evolve. Win win!
