The Sherwood Inn has been around forever! I grew up going there and don't recall how it was all those years ago but I do know that it is a place I love going to at least 1-2 times a week for a cocktail, some wine, or to belly-up to the bar for a casual lunch or dinner.
The staff is one of the main draws for me. They're awesome! They all have differing personalities which is a plus. Depending on the mood you're in, you've got someone to talk to or not. ;-) Love this team!
The ambiance hasn't changed much in decades and that is fine with me. It's dark, comfortable, and always warm enough. In fact, be VERY prepared in the winter months to sweat your ass off if you're over dressed; more so as the masses start to gather... I run warm so this is just my personal observation but there is also a slightly older crowd that tends to dine here so maybe management has been "encouraged" to pump up the heat.
Some exceptional things to eat there will be their burger (outstanding!), the French Onion soup (the best I've ever eaten....anywhere), the scallops that are always perfectly cooked, and seasonal dishes and fish/seafood are always great. I've had kitchen mishaps before here but nothing to complain about in the big picture. If there is an issue, the staff always makes it right.
The Sherwood is a classic and part of the very fabric of Skaneateles itself. If you are visiting, this is a must-go-to. Salute!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 14, 2023Updated review
Never disappointed in the past and not disappointed today. Their French Onion soup is outstanding and the Scod was perfect. Always a great un-rushed place to have an excellent meal.
No complaints at all. Service - Food - Ambience were all spot on.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Oct 13, 2023Previous reviewI've not been here many times, but I can say that the few times I have were exceptional. Weather as part of a large crowd/gathering as part of a Company Party or a quit lunch with my wife - absolutely no complaints.
The good and service were spot on.
A little pricy, but this is a perfect where the quality warrants the $.
If in the area, I'd totally recommend it. - 20187238Oct 26, 2023
The food here was so delicious, that pasta was so good! The oysters were topped with this amazing garlic sauce, it was unreal good.
I can't say enough about how good the service was. We arrived late and told them we were sorry but we had a reservation, but we were late for it, and they still found us a nice table and they were apologizing to us for us, having to wait for them to find a table for us. We were like oh my gosh thank you so much Please do not apologize to us we were late!! Ambience is great there, very fancy place.
I'm so glad they were able to accommodate us. I can't wait to come back and try more!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Erika E.Los Angeles, CA498539Mar 30, 2024Updated review

This is the first time my husband and I have had dinner here. We have stayed at Sherwood but not dined. The food was absolutely delicious. Service was great as well. The old timey feel of the restaurant cannot be beat.

The wood burning fireplace in the lobby and restaurant, and the attempt to keep the ground floor as authentic as possible makes you feel like you have visited the 18th century. It is charming. Service at the lobby desk is fantastic. We haven't eaten here, but the food smells delicious and it's always busy inside. Definitely reccomend a stay here if you're in the area.

Def go back. We ate on the porch which faces the street but across the street is the lake. It was very nice. Clean and well preserved antique house. Check it out if in the area !Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 1 - MaryAnn M.Auburn, NY01Apr 25, 2024
I was very disappointed.. I contacted to see if that had Mother's Day Brunch and was told "yes". When I went to make reservations they told me they couldn't for 4 people because they only had (2) tables for 2. I was very disappointed and so was my Mom who loves the restaurant and needs GF food

Always a good lunch. Best quiche in town. Crab cakes aren't too shabby either...
Good wine selection and wonderful views..Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 18, 2020Previous reviewVery nice open air lunch. Good spacing between shaded tables
Not fine dining but more snacky things. The beef on wreck au jus was excellent, likewise the shrimp chowder. Lovely surroundings. On a hot day, it's perfect. - Sep 10, 2023Updated review
Just a shout out for the events the Sherwood hosts. We went to the Seafood Fest today. Four different bands, plenty of outdoor seating and delicious food. I highly recommend keeping an eye out for their future events!

The fireplace and decorations are stunning in the winter. The service is always good and the food is great, however be prepared for smaller portions (they are a little pricey for the size). It has a beautiful view of the lake, I recommend making a visit to the Sherwood Inn.

I love Sherwood overall but we tried their Mother Day Brunch this year! The variety for the price was phenomenal! They opened the entire restaurant for the brunch and while it was packed, there was always enough food and desserts out. The drinks also came out pretty fast. We didn't have a reservation, but we're still able to find seating. I highly recommend making a reservation for next years brunch.
