GETTING HERE

Vinalhaven is only a ferry ride away.  From the Rockland Ferry Terminal the trip is an hour and fifteen minutes to the island. There are six ferry departures daily: the first  at 7:00 am and the last one back at 4:30pm.

Find more information on schedules and fares by clicking HERE.

GETTING AROUND

If you are coming for the day there is no need to bring a car.  Vinalhaven is an easy island to walk and bike around.  Bike & car rentals are available at The Tidewater Motel.  Planning is required if you need to bring a car, so be sure to ask about line reservations and driving on when calling the ferry office.

There is also a local taxi company on the island to help you get around.

Vinalhaven Taxi (207) 720-0056.

SWIM

Go for swim in one of the island's rock quarries! The island has two public swimming quarries.  Booth's Quarry and Lawson's Quarry are both a walk from town, each is about 1.5 miles to the east and west from our shop. If you prefer salt water, Geary's Beach is a couple miles from town and a perfect little cove to go for a float.

HIKE

Vinalhaven Land Trust stewards eleven preserves on the island with over 15 miles of diverse hiking trails to the public.  We recommend the Tip Toe trail for dynamic views of the Fox Islands, and the Lane's Island Preserve for its' Wyeth-esque meadows and craggy coastal windswept trails.

STAY

Last minute lodging can be tricky to find as people tend to book in advance and stay for a while, we can't blame them. Here are some of our recommendations of where to start your search. You can also take a look at the Vinalhaven Chamber of Commerce site for more lodging tips
