Finding Your Type on Tinder !

Tinder is a very popular dating app that matches users together based on location. It’s centered around a very efficient interface that allows users to swipe right or left (Like or Dislike) on another user’s profile. Once the users have liked each others profile or swiped right on each other, they are matched through the app and are able to connect via tinder messaging. The current interface is good because it is quick and efficient. The Basic functionality is relatively intuitive and the app even starts up with instructions and notes on how to do certain things. One design choice that sticks out to me is where they place the like and dislike button. Even though there is another method to select (swipe right or left for liking and disliking), the placement of the buttons are in alignment with the swiping mechanism. In addition to this, being able to swipe through a plethora of new selections gives the app a “scroll factor” like many social medias which keeps users busy and entertained. One aspect that tinder should’ve incorporated in there Discovery setting is more options in there “Show me” setting. I think the designer may have held off on incorporating more options (via drop down) due to brand image. Some people who are more sensitive to these topics may find the selection options more offensive. I think the app should allow you to be more selective in the type of people you can choose from.

MY FIX:

The current Discovery settings interface has only two options to select from, Show Men or Women. When selecting either Men or Women the designer used an ON or OFF slider to allow the user to select. In this particular part of the interface I would have used a drop down menu with options for each choice. When the drop down menu comes down, I would have included more specific features like Hair color, Height, and age. This feature would allow for more efficient matching, due to the fact you would get to select from a smaller pool of people who may be “your type”.The designer did well in including bars at the top of the profile photo, indicating how many photos they had available to swipe through. This feature could be improved by incorporating circular buttons on each edge each of the photographs which would allow the user to toggle through a users picture gallery. Having this feature would prevent any accidental right or left swipes while simply trying to navigate through a users photo gallery.
