SPEAK RIGHT WITH SAKEENAH'WRITES 010(DUPE VS DUPER VS DUPERY):

Hey champ! Welcome to another episode of SPEAK RIGHT WITH SAKEENAH'WRITES. Thank you for coming this far with us on this journey 😊🔥. "Do you know that a dupe is not the person who dupes others, but the person who has been duped? Do you? Find out in today's conversation between SHOMOLU AND ME to know how and why.

SHOMOLU: ... I don't know what got into her. Why will someone be so foolish as to send the full amount for a product that's yet to be delivered to her doorstep. Haaa! Ago niyen naw! That's duping for God's sake! Those people are dupes!!

ME: Wait! Wait!! You are confusing me naw! Dupes keh! Who is the Dupe? Your sister or the sellers?

SHOMOLU: Simple English you don't understand. My sister was the one that was duped, but the sellers are the dupe because they duped her.

ME: Haaaa! See how you are confidently defending the rubbish English you spoke (with a sly smile). Okay, calm down, calm down, before I listen to your issues, let me tell you that the way and manner in which you used the word "DUPE" and "DUPING" is WRONG.

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a dupe is one that is easily deceived or cheated(fool). A "DUPE" is one who has been duped not the one who duped the other.

According to the Oxford dictionary, someone who deceives, tricks, manipulates, dupes or duped people is called a "DUPER" not a "DUPE" like you always thought.

Furthermore, Merriam-Webster states that the act of duping and the condition of being duped is called "DUPERY." So, to sum it up dear, your sister, who was duped, is the "DUPE," those who duped her are the "DUPERS," and the deceitful act is known as "DUPERY."

SHOMOLU: Lord! Is it every time you will be correcting someone English ni! Please don't correct me on this one o(with a grin on his face). Thank you ma. Please let me proceed to why I have been uneasy since last night.
