Taking Justice Into Their Own Hands: The Dangerous Consequence of a Failing System

Throughout history, people have taken justice into their own hands when they feel the system fails them. This often results in public stoning, humiliation, or vigilantism. While these methods of punishment may seem barbaric to some, it is undeniable that they stem from a deep-seated desire for justice and accountability.

The current state of the justice system and law enforcement in many countries has led to widespread anger and frustration. Racist justice systems and police officers who act with impunity have led to numerous instances of violence and injustice toward marginalized communities. It is not uncommon for Black and brown people to be disproportionately targeted by police, facing harassment, brutality, and even death.

Schools are not safe places for children either, with instances of bullying, sexual harassment, and violence occurring all too frequently. Moreover, the division amongst communities has only grown over time, with people turning against one another instead of working towards a common goal.

To make matters worse, the wrong political people are in the right positions of government. Those who should be advocating for justice and equality are instead protecting their own interests, often at the expense of the people they are meant to serve.

It is no wonder that people are taking justice into their own hands. When the system fails to provide accountability or justice, people feel they have no choice but to act independently. While this can result in violent and dangerous situations, it is essential to understand the root causes of this behavior and to address the underlying issues.

For example, rather than cracking down on vigilantism, governments should focus on reforming the justice system and law enforcement to ensure that all people are treated fairly and justly. Police officers who act with impunity should be held accountable for their actions, and the justice system should be reformed to ensure that marginalized communities are not unfairly targeted.

In schools, bullying and violence should be taken seriously and addressed through preventative measures, education, and counseling. This requires a systemic change in how schools operate, including a shift towards restorative justice practices that prioritize healing and accountability over punishment.

Ultimately, addressing the root causes of vigilantism and taking action to reform systems of power is the only way to ensure that people do not feel compelled to take justice into their own hands. It is time for governments, law enforcement, and society as a whole to take a long, hard look at the systems in place and work towards a more just and equitable future.
