Seven is a weird number, but why?
The number 7 is not weird like 13, which many consider to be unlucky, but weird because many people both consider it lucky and tend to choose the number.
When people are asked to pick a number from 1 to 10 they aren’t actually trying to pick a number, but pick a number you won’t expect. Given that you ask them to think of it, but not say it out loud. That’s why 30% of people say the number seven when asked to pick a number. If you tell them to picture the number on a blackboard with white ink the percentage of people who pick seven goes up.
The reason for this is because seven seems to be the most unthinkable number on a scale from one to ten.
People stay away from one and ten because they are too extreme and all the even numbers have a known pattern. Five is too obvious because it’s the middle and that leaves three seven and nine. Nine is too close to the end, and three seems more obvious than seven. So the winner is seven. The number seven is also the most common favorite number, closely followed by three.
