Coach Tim Drevno on Tarik Black
"We love big guys like Tarik. When you have a player of his size and stature, one advantage is that the quarterback is able to see that big target down the middle of the field. Tarik runs really good routes, has really good hands, and plucks the ball out of the air well, so he has great ball skills, too. He really fights to grab the ball out of the air and we just love his competitiveness. We're excited to see what he brings to the team."

In the Words of the Black Family
"Tarik is a very determined young man who has been blessed with great athletic ability. His work ethic and determination set him apart from others at an early age. His passion for the game of football started when he was six years old. He would watch as many college and NFL games as he could, and immediately go outside to work on his catching and spin moves.

"He attacked his academics with the same enthusiasm. Not making the honor roll was never an option for Tarik. Many nights at the dining room table, he could be seen with a football in one hand and a book in the other. He carried that football everywhere. It wasn't unusual to hear Tarik doing ladder work in the garage at six a.m. unsolicited, with a weight vest on, at the age of 13. He balanced academics, sports, and his trainer three times per week. He was always told to put God first and that hard work goes a long way. Tarik was the captain of the football team, was awarded MVP, was recognized as an All-New England first team player for 4 years, and was later named an All-American and Army All-American. The one thing that people may not know unless truly knowing him, is that Tarik is extremely humble, loving, loyal, and his family means everything to him. He would rather see others succeed at his own expense.

"Being a four-sport athlete growing up, 'the TEAM' always came first for him. His approach to everything was to lead by example. Throughout his recruiting process, it was very important for him to talk about the state of Connecticut, and the number of great athletes that get overlooked by colleges and recruiting services because of their zip code. He will always carry his state on his back and be Connecticut's number one ambassador. We are so proud of the young man he has grown to be, a great athlete, but more importantly a phenomenal person! Go BLUE!!"
