HP’s Slate 8 Pro Tablet

Leave it up to HP to screw up another tablet introduction.

Even on their own hype site, there’s no word of what the RAM or storage is for that tablet! This is basic information that should be out there on day one! A price range would be nice too. And, oh yeah, a sales date other than “November.”

Hasn’t any company learned how to do it like Apple? Bueller? Bueller?

Setting aside those gripes, this tablet is intriguing.

Seriously, that looks like what Acer should have done as an update to the Acer Iconia A1-810. I wouldn’t be surprised if the OEM is Acer.

I like the idea of a covered microSD card slot.

It looks to be kind of svelte — certainly thinner than the Acer Iconia A1-810 — and I like the tapered edges.

Fans of charging via USB will be happy to learn it does that.

And that screen resolution of 1600 x 1200 at 7.98-inches just wipes the floor with all of the iPad Mini clones out of China. Really, why should I even consider them now?

Well one reason would be the amount of RAM. Does this have 2GBs of RAM? Does it have 16GBs of storage at minimum? And what’s the damned price?

As for the Tegra 4 … the word is that many vendors passed on using it due to thermal and energy issues. When running at full speed, it runs hot. And it also chews up the battery. Those are the things that have been said. We’ll have to see if real life validates any of that.

On the other hand, NVIDIA’s own 7-inch 1.8Ghz Tegra 4 tablet will soon go on sale in China, and here is its AnTuTu 4.0 score [Google English] compared to the 2013 Nexus 7:

SAMSUNG CSC

A 34,000-range AnTuTu score is blistering. I think that’s the highest AnTuTu score I’ve yet seen. In theory, this would scream with Google Books PDFs.

If the Slate 8 Pro can deliver that along with 2GBs of RAM, I’d be sold.

As it is, this is now second in line behind the LG G Pad 8.3 until I know full details. 2GBs of RAM would make it my tablet buying choice.
