M1A1 SA Abrams Spotted on Donbas

In a report dedicated to the 47th Mechanized Brigade showed the Abrams main battle tank.

The NOELREPORTS media platform published on X (ex-Twitter) social media a piece of reporting by the We-Ukraine TV channel showing these tanks in service.

Footage possibly taken in the Avdiivka area shows M1A1 SA tank in desert camouflage. It is worth noting that before that, Ukrainian Abrams were spotted in three-color camouflage.

Recall that Ukraine received 31 Abrams tanks from the United States of SA (Situational Awareness) special version.

Recently, Militarnyi reported that the SA tanks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are equipped with an Abrams Reactive Armor (ARAT-1) kit.

ARAT reactive armor is included in the Tank Urban Survival Kit (TUSK), which was actively used by American troops during the Iraq campaign. ARAT-1 ERA blocks protect the combat vehicle from HEAT ammunition, shrapnel and small arms.

The path of Abrams tanks to Ukraine

At the end of May 2023, 200 Ukrainian troops began training on M1 Abrams tanks at an American military base in Germany.

The training program included not only training crews to operate tanks, but also training personnel to maintain these combat vehicles.

In early August, the United States officially approved the transfer of the first batch of Abrams tanks to Ukraine. The main training course for crews and technical personnel on these tanks was completed in August.

It was originally planned that the funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative would be used to transfer American tanks to Ukraine to purchase new equipment from the manufacturer.

Then they decided to withdraw equipment from the US Army reserves, and before sending it to Ukraine, the tanks were repaired and converted.

The states also included depleted uranium tank armor-piercing projectiles in a military aid package to Ukraine that was announced on September 6.

Militarnyi reported on October 17, 2023, that all M1 Abrams tanks promised by the United States had arrived in Ukraine.
