UFC Fight Night 72's Joanne Calderwood unaware, uncaring of Angela Hill's callout

GLASGOW, Scotland – Joanne Calderwood says Angela Hill can take it up with the bosses if she’s unhappy about her opponent at UFC Fight Night 72.

The UFC strawweight said she didn’t know Hill recently attacked her on Instagram and shrugged off any ill will from her former cast mate on “The Ultimate Fighter 20.”

“That’s strange,” she said of Hill’s comments to MMAjunkie on Wednesday during a media day in support of Saturday’s event at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro, which airs on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. “I don’t really pay attention to it because at the end of the day, it’s not my job.”

Hill, an early elimination on “TUF 20” who also was on a team opposite Calderwood (9-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), fought just this past month and lost a decision to Tecia Torres in her second bout following the reality show. But she stormed onto social media this past Thursday when the Scottish fighter was re-booked opposite newcomer Cortney Casey (4-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) after her originally scheduled opponent, “TUF 20” vet Bec Rawlings (6-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC), fell out due to injury.

“#JoanneCalderwood gets her 3rd opponent in a row NOT signed to the UFC that NO ONE has heard of after I begged to step up and fight her on short notice,” Hill wrote. “Her ranking is bullsh-t when she’s not fighting ranked opponents. Somebody’s scurd.”

Calderwood, a quarterfinalist on “TUF,” countered that she’ll fight anyone requested of her by the UFC.

“I can’t say, ‘Oh well, I’ll only fight you’ – I fight whoever is put in front of me, so she’s probably better just taking it up with the UFC, see how far she can get with that,” Calderwood said. “Probably as far as she got with me – no one paid attention.”

Calderwood vs. Casey airs live on FOX Sports 1 as part of UFC Fight Night 72’s main card. The matchup is a chance for Calderwood to get back on the winning track and earn her second UFC win after an upset loss to Maryna Moroz in April at UFC Fight Night 64.

If successful on Saturday, Calderwood said she’d be happy to take on Hill if the UFC so desires.

“I don’t care,” she said. “I’ll fight anyone; whoever they put in front of me. If that fight happens, then obviously, I’ll be excited about it. I don’t know what this girl said – I just want to fight and maybe she should try that.”
