Ambassador Mayen Dut Wol

Hon. Mayen Dut Wol, the current Undersecretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, began his foreign service career in 2011 when he was appointed as a Grade 1 Ambassador in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Born in June, 1972, Ambassador Wol’s background is in education, where he first served as an assistant lecturer in College of Education, Department of History, at the University of Bahr El-Ghazal.

However, his career in education was short-lived. In 2006, after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), he joined politics and was appointed as Minister of Health in Khartoum State, serving on the ticket of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).

Later in 2007, Hon. Wol was reassigned to the Ministry of Local Government, also in Khartoum State.

Ambassador Wol is also a member of the SPLM’s National Liberation Council (NLC).

In 2011, he was appointed a Grade 1 Ambassador and subsequently as Director General of the Multilateral Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign of the Republic of South Sudan.

Between 2012 and 2019, he served as Head of Mission in Sudan. Additionally, from 2015 to 2019, Ambassador Wol was also South Sudan’s non-resident Ambassador to Chad.

Following the recent outbreak of armed conflict in Sudan between government forces and fighters of the Rapid Response Forces (RSF), the government asked him to lead a committee charged with advising the government on how to respond to the overwhelming humanitarian crisis resulting from the crisis in Sudan.

Ambassador Wol has a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Juba, specializing in Geography and History.

He also holds a master’s degree in Business Administration, Department of Human Resources, from Sudan’s University of Garden City and another master’s degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the University of Juba.

Hon. Wol is currently studying for a Law degree at the University of Juba.
