SPAIN Aldeasa-WDF recently opened a new store in Bilbao Airport featuring 220sq m of shopping space and a strong emphasis on Basque products.
The store is in a new location and is larger than the previous space.
Aldeasa said it is committed to highlighting Basque products. The most important Basque brands of food, beverages and souvenirs are on offer.
Various local suppliers are highlighted in the new space, including Axpe Sagardtegia beverages with sidra and txacolí wine, which recently received the Producto Eusko Label, a prestigious Basque quality designation.

A wide range of food products is also to the fore, including Basque Izkiña cake, El Caserío candies; marmalades, honey, Laneko Koop tomato and pepper sauces, traditional pastries from Comercial Ulzuma and Aldanondo cheeses. In addition, the range of souvenirs is extensive and includes the famous Kukuxumusu t-shirts, figurines depicting typical Basque sports (aizkolari, harri jasorze and pelotari), and products with the Ikurriña (Basque flag) such as ashtrays and mugs.
The retailer said it has also introduced an innovative design to make it easier for customers to find products.
Another innovation is the store’s location between the two passenger access control spaces, making it easily accessible to all travellers entering the terminal through any security control area.
Aldeasa Director of National Operations Daniel Montero said: “We are happy to be able to support and promote Basque products. Travellers can take home authentic Basque products of the highest quality as souvenirs of their stay in Euskadi.”

Montero said that the store’s new design responds to the “˜Shopping Experience’ philosophy Aldeasa is adopting in all its new commercial spaces, creating an inviting and relaxed atmosphere so travellers enjoy their time in the airport.
Aldeasa has been present at Bilbao Airport since 1994.
