American bellflower is a showy annual or biennial. Sow seed in fall if you desire an annual (or start the seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost) or sow in late spring for a biennial. This is a very common wildflower and can be found statewide in moist, open woods, along roadsides, streambanks, and forest edges. Bumblebees are the primary pollinators, though other bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are attracted to the blue flowers as well.
