Ditalini are small tubular pasta mostly used in soups and sometimes in salads. The name Ditalini means “little thimbles”
The are called little thimbles because they resemble a thimble (a small cover, made of metal or plastic, worn to protect the finger that pushes the needle when sewing).
Ditalini is typically used in the Italian soup, ‘pasta e fagioli’ (pasta and beans) but can be used in other soups like minestrone or in this Left-over Turkey Soup.
They are also great in salads.
They may also be referred to as tubettini or salad macaroni.
