Aunt Vadge: I’ve had vaginal pinworms for 13 years – help!

It's a pinworm with an umbrella, looking pretty pleased with itself.

Hi Aunt Vadge,

I have had pinworm or thread worms for more than 13 years. I feel sometimes pinworms migrate into my vagina always night. I feel irritation and pain.

What should I do?

Sincerely,
Wormy
Somalia

Dear Wormy,

I understand how difficult and frustrating it must be to deal with pinworms for such an extended period. Pinworms, also known as threadworms, typically infest the intestinal area, but in some cases, they can migrate to the vagina or urinary tract, especially at night, causing discomfort and irritation.

We’ve written LOADS on pinworms at our pinworm article, including treatment suggestions.

You have likely done this, but for anyone out there who isn’t sure, the first and most crucial step is to receive a proper diagnosis to confirm that it is indeed a pinworm infection and to rule out any other possible causes of your symptoms.

If you require more in-depth vulvovaginal health support and think a specialist naturopath’s approach may complement your needs, please check with your doctor or book an appointment with a My Vagina vulvovaginal specialist naturopath.

I truly hope you find relief soon!
Warm regards,
Aunt Vadge
