Whatever path one travels, the future is often obscure. Accepting and admitting confusion can paradoxically transform into a moment of truth. Such illuminations cannot be sought, but are sometimes found. 

This week’s photo challenge, “Path”, begins with a quotation from the Welsh poet Gwyn Thomas: “But the beauty is in the walking – we are betrayed by destinations.” I think this is true, but in the walking we may stumble, fall or deviate, and all these experiences add up to shape our path, whether chosen or not.

Whatever path we travel, I hope that we can let nature in, being aware of the wayside and byways, and being open to the bigger picture too.

And for the year ahead, as noted in the linocut by the late Namibian artist John Muafangejo: “Hope and optimism – in spite of the present difficulties”. ★
