OAK HARBOR, Ohio (AP) - A nuclear plant that shut down over the weekend due to a steam leak has resumed operations.

Officials with the David-Besse nuclear power plant near Toledo say the facility resumed operations Tuesday and was expected to be back at full power Thursday.

The plant, operated by FirstEnergy Corp., shut down Saturday night after the leak was discovered in part of the plant that doesn't involve a nuclear reactor.

The leak was termed an "usual event," but was declared the lowest emergency category and posed no public safety threat.

A spokeswoman with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission tells The Blade the utility will need to determine the leak's cause. Officials also want to determine if it was isolated an incident or if other pipes have weakened.
