Description (from Thorne, 1939)
Lip region discoid, about half as wide as neck base.
Amphids stirrupform with obscure apertures, one-third as wide as head.
Sensillae about opposite spear base. Pharynx one-third head width.
Guiding ring extensible. Esophagus with swellings anterior to nerve
ring similar to those of Discolaimus major. Posterior three-fifths
of esophagus enlarged, somewhat irregular in width. Intestine six
cells in circumference. Vulva transverse. Vagina extending
one-third across body. Ovaries nearly symmetrical, reflexed two-thirds
the distance back to the vulva. Eggs three to four body widths long.
Lateral cords one-third body width, usually with conspicuous cells connected
with the lateral pores. Tail somewhat longer than anal body diameter,
convex-conoid to a blunt terminus. Male unknown, gravid females contained
no sperms
Diagnosis: Discolaimus with the above measurements
and general description. Closely related to D. major from
which it differs in the more slender body, a = 41 : 33, conoid tail and
relatively longer eggs.
A Dorylaimus spear was present in the intestine
of one specimen. Doubtless the species is nemativorous.
Habitat: In soil collected by Mr. E. W. Davis,
U. S. Bureau of Entomology and plant Quarantine, about roots of Covillea
tridentata near Littlefield, Arizona, U. S. A.
