Fear of rabies spreading in Tanzania with unspeakable consequences.

Locals have embarked on a dog-killing rampage because of one rabid dog. People are fearful of a potential rabies outbreak and resorted to killing any dog they encounter – believing all must die. Thousands could die because of one sick animal. Yes, it’s irrational, and yes, we must act – that’s why we are stepping in.

The one rabid dog has been shot, but too late to stop fear and uncertainty spreading like wildfire.

We know at least 32 dogs have ALREADY been violently beaten to death with sticks and stones; without your immediate support, countless more will suffer horrible deaths.

What makes it worse is local officials issued a statement encouraging shooting street dogs. As animal lovers, we could not stand by and allow this to happen.

The authorities have given us one chance to save the dogs before unleashing canine genocide.

Together with our local partners, The Arusha Society for the Protection of Animals (ASPA), and revered animal welfare ambassador and veterinarian, Sr Dr Rosamystica, we convinced officials that there was a humane alternative – conducting an emergency mass rabies vaccination program.

Local officials agreed to our plan, but now it falls to us and YOU to put our plan into action.

Our team is ready to rush to the region to start vaccinating dogs immediately and ensure that local veterinarians are also equipped and ready to go. The irony is that rabies vaccines are not expensive.

If we can raise $5,000 (around £4,100), that’s enough to vaccinate 1500 dogs and provide urgent medical care to injured animals.

In addition to buying the vaccines, your donation will cover veterinary supplies like syringes and transporting our vet team to the remote villages.

Rabies is a massive problem in Tanzania. Words can barely do justice to the horror of this terrible disease, which is spread by saliva. Two to four days after getting infected, the dog becomes weak or paralyzed, starts having seizures, difficulty in breathing, has difficulty swallowing, and shows abnormal behavior, including extreme aggression to depression or coma.
