In November of 2021, I had the rare privilege of representing our Jewel in the Junior Pan-American Games hosted in Cali, Colombia. I was granted this opportunity due to my success in claiming victory in the U18 qualifying tournament for 2021, and the fortune of an official tennis wildcard granted by the Olympic committee. The entire trip happened over the course of 11 days, from November 26th to December 7th. I hope to share what I have experienced, and in doing so, expose the lessons I have learned, and offer some humble suggestions for the future of tennis development in our country.  Continue reading “Reflections on Colombia”

The Brodies & RF&G Insurance men’s doubles tennis tournament took place this past weekend at the Pickwick Club Tennis Courts. There were twenty two men in this event making it eleven doubles teams. The format was done as a round robin to increase playing time. There were two groups of five and six teams respectively and each team in a group played each other a regular set in the round robin with the top two teams from each group making it to the semi-finals. The top finishers making it to the semis were Mike Sosa & Stefan Sosa, Blake Lee & Ralph Tatum, Peter Quan & Harnadar Tut, and Richard Huang & Samron Pott. In the first semifinal, which was a pro-set, the father and son duo, Mike Sosa & Stefan Sosa vied against Richard Huang & Samron Pott in a fast and exciting match with some great tennis. FACT SHEET FOR BRODIES/ RF&G MEN’S and WOMEN’S OPEN DOUBLES TENNIS TOURNAMENT 2021 (Sanctioned by the Belize Tennis Association)

 

• TOURNAMENT VENUE: Belize Pickwick Club
• ENTRY DEADLINE: Monday 21^st June, 2021 @ 4 pm

Note: Please comply with entry deadline as we are ordering t-shirts for all participants.

• DISTRIBUTION OF DRAW TO PARTICIPANTS: THURSDAY June 24, 2021 BY 6 PM.
• TOURNAMENT DATE & TIME: Friday June 25^th , 2021 commencing 6PM and continues Saturday June 26^th and Sunday June 27^th (If needed depending on number of entries)
• EVENTS TO BE PLAYED & FORMATS:

1. OPEN MEN’S DOUBLES
2. OPEN WOMEN’S DOUBLES

Pro-Set in Round Robin, Ads Played out, Tie breaker applies at 7 games all, Top 4 teams proceed to Semis. Best of 3 regular sets in semis, Ads Played out, Tie breaker applies at 6 games all; Best of 3 regular sets in finals, Ads Played out, Tie breaker applies at 6 games all, all other ITF rules shall apply. Tournament Director has the right to adjust format on tournament dates depending on number of entries and time restrictions)

• PRIZES TO WINNERS & RUNNERS UP.
• ENTRY FEE: $15.00 per person/$30.00 per doubles team payable at the Tennis Courts prior to start of play.
