A Hewittsville man was arrested on Monday for attempted murder in Taylorville.

The Taylorville Police Department says Jeffrey Jones, 56, is facing charges of attempted murder and home invasion.

Police say they received a call at 4:02 p.m. of home invasion. When officers responded they saw two victims bleeding profusely from their heads, arms, and legs.

The victims stated that a crowbar was used during the attack.

One victim was taken to Springfield in serious condition and is now stable with a skull fracture and several lacerations, and other related trauma to the body. The second victim was taken to Taylorville Memorial, treated for lacerations, and released.

Police say that this was not a random act of violence, and police are still investigating motives.

Police learned Jones's identity with the help of the victims and witnesses. We're told, Jones is on parole and has a parole address in Hewettsville.

Upon arriving in Hewettsville, police learned that Jones borrowed a friend's truck. Several Taylorville Police units searched the area and located the vehicle and the suspect on East Adams Street within two hours.

Jones was taken into custody without any incident and is being held in the county jail on $750,000 bond.

Police say Jones has been to the IDOC 9 times for violent acts and burglary
