Institutional Seminar Hosting: Is it Serendipitous or Auspicious?

...Well, Yes and Yes

Over the years I have noticed that institutions who end up directly or indirectly hosting Great Teachers Events often never really intended to but by favorable and/or unforeseen circumstances did.  That general  lack of intentionality  makes for an authentic style of seminar support and allows for minimal administrative interference that would tend to kill the unscripted spirit of a GT seminar.  It also provides institutions with a golden opportunity to promote the growth of sound academic practices within higher education, demonstrate administrative support for teaching faculty, and help ensure that innovative student-driven teaching and learning is incubated and maximized at their college/university.

If you live in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America or other international site approved by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees that awards associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degrees, it is highly likely that the appropriate deployment of GT events will also interface nicely with one or more of the 2018 Principles of Accreditation as a college-wide supporting event that can easily be documented and recorded.  There are ways to do this even with our unscripted and organic methods in the NGTM.

In my experience with many colleges and universities over the past 20+ years, I am amazed that more educational leaders don't take advantage of the power of the void and unknown in NGTM precepts and protocols that tend to be "left on the table" of institutional accomplishments when it comes to showcasing their respective schools either through marketing or accreditation.  While many aspects of seminar hosting and conduction are in fact both serendipitous and/or auspicious, harnessing the power of their outcomes must be more intentional and direct.  If you are interested in advanced discussions on this topic, please drop me an email.
