Robosen's Robot Buzz Lightyear Turns the Space Ranger Into a 'Living Collectible'

Robosen has teamed up with Disney and Pixar to bring a new robot Buzz Lightyear to life, creating infinite possibilities for infinite playability with its most advanced "living collectible" yet.

Buzz is famously quick to pick up on signs of intelligent life, so he would no doubt be impressed by the smart minds at Robosen for creating an ultra-authentic Space Ranger unit. Standing at 16.5 inches in height, the robot Buzz Lightyear is powered by more than 50 microchips and 23 high-precision servo motors that help it to move around and interact with collectors for a truly immersive experience.

The interactive Space Ranger is sure to shake up any toy box (or collector's cabinet, for that matter) as it features advanced algorithms and multiple programming modes to empower people to recreate Lightyear's most action-packed scenes. According to Robosen, Buzz can perform a dazzling array of movement options, demonstrating "exceptional mobility, stability, and life-like poses" with Sox by his side.

Much like the character from the movies, the Buzz Lightyear robot will never be at a loss for words. The model features a vast library of more than 200 original movie sounds and phrases as well as smart speech recognition and conversational voice interaction that allows collectors to interact with Buzz "without the need to recall specific command words" to activate him.

Buzz's Alpha Suit is made of premium materials and is comprised of "life-like shapes and colors from metal textures, antique finish, and battle-worn damage." The robot comes with interchangeable faces and battle suit gloves as well as an auto-converting XL-15 Jetpack, Space Ranger Blaster, Laser Gauntlet, and a Laser Blade DX – though these accessories vary depending on which robot is ordered.

The standard Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Alpha is currently available to pre-order for $649, while the collector’s limited edition Buzz Lightyear Infinity Pack (complete with five pairs of interchangeable hands and a full set of weapons) is up for pre-order at $749; with both models requiring a $99 USD deposit. These prices are below RRP as part of an early bird offer until November 12.

The Lightyear movie, released earlier this year, explored the definitive origin story of legendary space ranger Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans) — the hero who inspired the toy. The film was kept afloat by "strong performances and attractive visuals" that would "keep kids and adults alike entertained," according to IGN's review of Lightyear, "but the story isn't the quality you'd expect from Pixar."
